Munnar

sits about 1,600 meters above sea level in the Western Ghats mountain range. The name means three rivers because it lies where three mountain streams meet: Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala. During British rule, officials used this scenic town as a summer retreat to escape the heat of the plains. Eravikulam National Park protects the rare and endangered Nilgiri Tahr, a mountain goat found in these high regions. The area also grows the Neelakurinji flower, a special plant that blooms in blue only once every twelve years.
